Thinking about a renovation? Then you have lots to consider, from floor tiling to ambiance. Since calling the professionals can be a costly deal if you think you can take on the task of tiling your own floor, look no further as we guide you through the process!
Theme
You have tons of elements in your area that have to work harmoniously in order to live up to its purpose: a cohesive outlook. To do this you have to think of colors, patterns, and textures. Try and come up with a theme that you feel comfortable visualizing and then decide how you would lay out your floor, what color stones you want, and how much space should they cover.
Outline Your Plan
Draw out where you want to place your stone and its patterns or arrangements. Remove any pre-existing tiling and mortar and remove any furniture for the time being. You want to start with a level, fresh base.
What Type of Stone
Whether it's a vibrant yellow dijon flagstone or grey concrete cobblestones, it should complement other elements. Keep in mind some stones have characteristics such as being prone to staining and absorbing oils which make them a bad choice for places like kitchens.
Installation
Cut your tiles using a wet saw or have them cut locally if you want to avoid any injuries or mistakes. Mix your mortar as per instructions, thick enough that your trowel can easily create grooves. Make sure you have a sufficient number of tiles for the floor you want to cover and some extras just in case. Start by applying some of the mortar on the floor and back of your tiles and making grooves in them and then gently place them on the prepped floor, nudging them in place. Repeat and level them as you need and let them set.
You just have to finish off with a session of grouting to further help them stay in place and make them easier to clean. For more details, contact an expert to guide you through and look for equipment rentals in your area.
