Streptolysin "O" is one of the metabolites of group A hemolytic streptococcus, a hemolytic activity of the protein, highly immunogenic. Therefore, ASO has become an important indicator to determine the streptococcal infection. Patients with Hypercholesterolemia or macroglobulinemia may also appear to have the ASO elevated.
