Following harvesting, the rice undergoes thorough cleaning to remove impurities such as dirt, stones, and husks. Subsequently, the grains are dried either under the sun or in mechanical dryers to reduce moisture content, preventing spoilage. Once dried, the rice undergoes milling to remove the outer husk, resulting in brown rice. Further milling removes the bran layer, yielding white rice.
