#1. Today most of the catch basins are built on catch basins rings which can easily be fixed and repair. If you see sunken or raised asphalt around the catch basin which is limiting water from entering, you need to standard repair to replace the entire catch basin in this situation. This kind of catch basin repair only requires the asphalt around it to be cut out and repaved.

#2. There are some catch basins that are built on an older brick or mortar system which requires rebuilding or reconstructing. In order to repair this older catch basin system, it requires excavation of the whole catch basin removing all the bricks and rebuilding with modern catch basin rings. If no drainage system is installed, then water can leak into your property which may lead to causing cracking and other damages.

#3. There is another type of catch basin that consist of a cast iron frame sitting on a precast concrete drain. This type of repairs requires professional workers to saw cut around the catch basin and remove the asphalt. Then, excavate and expose the concrete basin. Hand chiseling is usually required because one wrong hit or cut could crack the basin’s form, causing water to leak into the sub base creating more problems. Lastly, a concrete breaker is applied and any gaps in the chisel work are purged.

#4. If you find a hole next to your catch basin, chances are the sub base made its way through around the outside of the inlet drain pipe. It can be caused due by many reasons, such as
  • Improper drain installation
